Perhaps it was due to me supposing that the evangelicals were so anti-intellectual that they wouldn't even read the whole Bible while emphasizing its importance. Of course, I'm referring to the tent-revival variety common in the US you mentioned, so your piece helps alot.<br /><br />After all, to my own embarrassment I end up sounding like an out of touch academic when I mention high or low church to the average Anglican/Episcopalian.
